Payroll & Employer Services

How can we help you with your Payroll & Employer Obligations?

Your people are your most valuable asset, but managing them is often your biggest administrative burden. EasyLedger Solutions acts as your dedicated payroll department, ensuring your staff are paid correctly and your IRD obligations are met on time, every time.

Car keys and logbook representing Fringe Benefit Tax

Do you provide your employees with company cars, low-interest loans, or subsidized health insurance? If so, you likely have FBT obligations. Fringe Benefit Tax is one of the most technical areas of tax law, and many businesses unknowingly get it wrong. We manage your Fringe Benefit Tax returns (quarterly or annually), calculating the taxable value of these perks and ensuring you aren't paying more tax than necessary. We also advise on the most tax-efficient ways to structure employee benefits packages.

KiwiSaver is a mandatory part of employing staff in New Zealand. As an employer, you are responsible for enrolling new eligible staff, deducting their contributions, and making your own compulsory 3% contribution. You must also calculate the correct Employer Superannuation Contribution Tax (ESCT) rate for each employee. Our KiwiSaver Administration service ensures you are meeting all these statutory obligations. We handle the opting-out process for new hires and ensure your contributions align perfectly with the latest IRD thresholds.

Frequently Asked Questions for Employers

What is Payday Filing?

Payday filing is a mandatory requirement in New Zealand where employers must file employment information (details of who was paid and how much) to the Inland Revenue within two working days of the payday. You cannot wait until the end of the month. We automate this process through our software so it happens instantly when we process your pay run.

Do I have to pay FBT on a work vehicle?

Generally, yes, if the vehicle is available for the employee's private use (even if they don't actually use it privately). However, there are exemptions for "work-related vehicles" (like sign-written vans with no rear seats) or if private use is strictly prohibited. We can review your vehicle fleet to determine your exact liability.

How do I calculate Holiday Pay correctly?

This is the most common area of error in NZ payroll. Employees are entitled to be paid for annual leave at the higher of their "Ordinary Weekly Pay" or their "Average Weekly Earnings" over the last 12 months. Many systems default to the wrong rate. We perform manual checks to ensure your leave calculations comply with the Holidays Act 2003.
