Goods and Services Tax (GST) is often the biggest administrative burden for New Zealand businesses. One mistake in your calculation can trigger an IRD review. We take over the entire process with our GST Services. We handle your registration, calculate your liability, and file your returns (monthly, two-monthly, or six-monthly). We also manage complex adjustments for assets used for both business and private purposes, ensuring your refunds are accurate and your cash flow remains healthy.

Tax forecasting trend line on glass whiteboard

Unexpected tax bills can cripple a business's cash flow. If your residual income tax exceeds $5,000, you generally fall into the provisional tax regime. We help you forecast these payments so you aren't caught short. We also specialize in the Provisional Tax & AIM (Accounting Income Method), a modern option that allows you to pay tax based on your actual profit every two months via Xero, rather than relying on guesswork or past years' performance.

Using smartphone to scan receipt for digital record keeping

Under the Tax Administration Act, you are required to keep accurate financial records for a minimum of seven years. The days of keeping shoeboxes full of receipts are over. Our Tax Record Keeping service helps you transition to a fully digital system. We implement cloud-based solutions like Xero and Hubdoc to automate data entry, ensuring your books are audit-ready at a moment's notice without the manual clutter.

Chess board representing business structure strategy

The legal structure you choose—Sole Trader, Company, Partnership, or Trust—has massive implications for your tax rate, asset protection, and ability to raise capital. Our Business Structuring advice ensures you are operating in the most efficient vehicle for your specific goals. Whether you are setting up a new venture or restructuring an existing one to protect assets, we guide you through the tax implications of every entity type.

Frequently Asked Questions about Business Tax

When is my business income tax due?

For most businesses with a standard 31 March balance date, your income tax return is due by 7 July. However, because EasyLedger Solutions is a registered Tax Agent, our clients generally get an extension of time until 31 March the following year to file their returns and pay terminal tax.

Do I need to register for GST?

You must register for GST if your turnover (gross income) was over $60,000 in the last 12 months, or if you expect it to go over $60,000 in the next 12 months. You can also choose to register voluntarily if you earn less than this, which can be beneficial for claiming back GST on startup costs.

What is the difference between a Sole Trader and a Company?

A Sole Trader is personally liable for all business debts, and business income is taxed at personal individual rates. A Company is a separate legal entity; it offers limited liability protection, and profits are taxed at the flat corporate rate of 28%. We can help you decide which structure fits your risk profile and income level.
